Ready, Set, Go!

This is a wonderful photo from Mary’s collection.  Unfortunately, it is not dated and there are no names on the back.

Eva arm-in-arm with “Billie Be Damned”

Mary’s photo collection includes only a few photos of her mother, Eva.  This is one of them.  There is no indication of where or when this photo was taken but the location appears to be Marysville.

The back of the photo reads:

Cousin Frank Rumping, St. Louis

Eva Rumping, Marysville

Billie Be Damned (dead)

Frank Walken, St. Louis

Which begs the question, what’s the story behind the name “Billie Be Damned”?  We’ll probably never know.

Ride with Lizzie, Mother’s Day, Shirley’s recital, Black Cat

black-woman-girl-thinking-white-cartoon-writingEntries from Journal #1: May 1930

May 1 – Mrs. Lizzie Korting and myself rode down to the cyanite and then walked up on the opposite side of the hill on [illegible] 1930.  The Herman Weinsitter boulivard.  It was made by him for pass time, he is well to-do.

May 11 – Mother’s day – Cid, Fran, Shirley & Buddie Dalin1, Bro. Wm. Rumping were up, had a nice time, went down the ridge bee hunting.  Cid & Fran went up to Erick Hedblom at Belmont (electric station [illegible]).   After dinner Mrs. Lizzie Korting & I went down to Mother Setzer walking over the hill part way.  I got a nice box of candy & necklace from Fran & Cid.  A nice card & box of candy from Evely[n] & Fred Marks.  A nice card & box candy from Irene & Jno Webber.  The 2 youngest daughters at Hannibal, Mo.   2 nice t bone steaks from Alb.  Nothing from Christie and I sure wonder why & it hurts, I say (Mother).  I am so lonesome for my nice black kitten Albert made me take away.  He was a loving cat.

May 23 – Mrs. Marq. Hedbloom & myself were at Frances (Mrs. Dalin).  She was all unreasonable, out of sorts, let us feel we fell in her way, in fact told us so.  I’ll go in June for Shirley’s sake but not Fran’s.  I sure can’t understand her emotions to me at times.  Fran chastised Shirley for making the same remarks to us she did herself.  Shirley did grand at her five page recital at Mrs. Luby’s studio on the piano in Helena.  Larson’s Geo, and Jno L Sullivan spoke fine of her.

May 30 – My black cat came back home.
