I cried for Valentine yesterday . . .

[Tuesday] October 11, 1932

I walked to Bald Mt. mill, then up over the hill into the gulch above Wm Williams. Picked grapes, chokecherries, and knoaknicks [???], then sent them to Irene.  I found 2 apple trees near Price’s claims above Williams. I cried for Valentine yesterday.

NOTES

I believe “Bald Mt. mill” is probably a reference to “Bald Butte mill”.

Bald Butte mill, date unknown

I was unable to decipher the word following “chokecherries” in this journal entry. I would certainly welcome any thoughts!

Irene, Mary and John Weber (Irene’s husband); date unknown

“Irene” was Mary’s second oldest daughter. She was born in 1906, probably in Marysville. Irene and her husband John Weber were most likely living in Hannibal, Missouri at the time of this journal entry.

Valentine Dora Schenk, circa summer of 1914

“Valentine” was Mary’s youngest daughter, born in Marysville on February 14, 1914. Sadly, she died of meningitis a little over one year later on April 2, 1915.

I believe the house in the background of this picture is Mary’s home in Marysville.
